bounces with smarthost

Post by SchlaWiener »

I have set up openemm and mailing works fine,
but I still don´t get a clou how to set up bounce management in my environment.

Maybe someone has a clou:
openemm on windows host @ company with a fixed ip (don´t want to run it on my webserver with plesk/qmail installed)
Webserver is configured to relay mails from my ip.

Now I´m wondering how to catch the bounces.

- Do I have to set the mx-record of the mailing´s reply to address to the dns entry of my ip?
- Do hard bounces work with smarthost (i don't think so)?

Hope someone can help me. thanks in advance

I don´t get it.
Just for testing purpuse I disabled smarthost and send the mailing directly from the host to two mail accounts.
One frow which I know it works and to one non existing account on my webserver to produce a hard bounce

In the semu logfile I see:
[10.07.2008 19:22:40] 9040 INFO/00000D00000000003: Successful 250: Message send via ***
[10.07.2008 19:22:41] 9040 INFO/00000D00000000007: Hardbounce 550: sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.7.17)

a closer look into bav.rule file shows that there is an entry:
^Sorry, no mailbox here by that name\.
(notice the S in the bounce filter
So i changed the line to
.orry, no mailbox here by that name\.

and also added thes lines:
.ardbounce
550:

but, if I resend the mailing, I still don´t see the bounce on the statistics page.

Any idea?

update:
The ...extbounce.log shows:
5.5.0;1;15;0;7;stat=sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.7.17)

so the bounce is noticed. But why is my statistics page:
bounces 0 (0%)
?
