Openemm 2015 Bounce Filter does not work at all.

Openemm 2015, Ubuntu 14.04, Tomcat 8, Sendmail. Followed OpenEMM install guide as much as possible (your Java instructions are obsolete)

I have configured a bounce filter and I filled in nothing but the name and description. Saved; generated ext_1@mailer.domain.com.
Created a mailing and made reply-to address ext_1@mailer.domain.com and sender address sender@Mail.domain.com all bounces go straight to sender@mail.domain.com.
If I attempt to send a mail to ext_1@mailer.domain.com I get user unknown.
Please tell me where to look to fix this. Such an error should not happen, or the solution should be documented.
