recipients : opt-out by user after Mailing

Hello,
i have got a Problem with user "Opt-Out".
After a Mailing is send some recipients are "magically" opted out.
In the field "user_status" is a 4 and in the field "user_remark" it says: "Opt-Out-Mailing: *mailingid*".
The recipients however swear that they did not do this.
Automatic bounces are not configured because there is noch sendmail on the Server.
Any ideas how this can be happening oder suggestions on where to look for more clues on what has happened?
