How do I opt a user in remotely?

Hi all, I'm trying to handle my mailings through my own web-interface. Using SOAP I have been able to create a subscriber, and add them to a double-opt-in mailing list remotely. However I need to be able to remotely send them a confirmation email which opts them in and sends them to either my verification success page or verification failure page.
How can I do this? Any help would be much appreciated.
