[SOLVED] Installation - No TomCat running issue.

Post by puck » Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:51 pm

Hi everyone,

I followed the instructions from OpenEMM-2013_InstallAdminGuide_1.0.4.pdf and I can't seem to get "emm" to start. Tomcat is working, Java is working, setuid is set, I don't know where to look or what to look at.

Code: Select all

openemm@openemm:~$ openemm.sh start
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/bav-update.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/bav-trigger.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/bavd.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/bav -L INFO .. done.
Start python /home/openemm/bin/scripts/recovery.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/update.py account bounce .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/pickdist.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/semu.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/slrtscn.py .. done.
Starting up Tomcat ......
Check Java installation          :OK
Check Tomcat installation        :OK
Using CATALINA_BASE:   /home/openemm
Using CATALINA_HOME:   /opt/openemm/tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /home/openemm/temp
Using JRE_HOME:        /opt/openemm/java
Using CLASSPATH:       /opt/openemm/tomcat/bin/bootstrap.jar:/opt/openemm/tomcat                                                                      /bin/tomcat-juli.jar
After this there's nothing on http://openemm.mydomain.name:8080 - Just a blank page, if I start tomcat on it's own, I can see the default tomcat page. When I stop openemm, here's what happens:

Code: Select all

openemm@openemm:~$ openemm.sh stop
No Tomcat is running.
Stop scripts/slrtscn.py program  .. done.
Stop scripts/semu.py program  .. done.
Stop scripts/pickdist program  .. done.
Stop scripts/update.py program  .. done.
Stop bin/bav program with signal 15 .. done.
Stop bin/bav program with signal 9 .. done.
Stop scripts/bavd program  .. done.
Stop scripts/bav-trigger program with signal 15 .. done.
Stop scripts/bav-update program with signal 15 .. done.
As I read in a previous post, setuid has been set, here are the permission in the /bin folder:

Code: Select all

root@openemm:/home/openemm/bin# ls -l
total 1428
-rwxr-xr-x 1 openemm openemm   77874 Jan 31 20:48 bav

-rwxr-xr-x 1 openemm openemm 1223382 Jan 31 20:48 xmlback
I did untar the tar.gz with xvzfp.

I'll also mention that i'm not using sendmail, so that has been disabled and smart-relay has been setup, probably has nothing to do with this, i'll just mention it, because who knows.

This is a Debian Squeeze 6.0.6 64bit box. If you need any other details, let me know, or I should RTFM, please link me to one.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Installation on Debian - No TomCat running issue.

Exactly the same thing is happening on a 64bit CentOS 6 box too. Seems tomcat is not running. What am I doing wrong here? On the debian box i have installed tomcat with apt-get, on CentOS i got the package and as requested by the tutorial I made sure that CATALINA_HOME and CATALINA_BASE are pointing to the proper place.

CentOS

Code: Select all

# ENV:
VERSION="1.0.2"
LANG="en_US.ISO8859_1"
OPENEMM_SW="/opt/openemm"
CATALINA_BASE="$HOME"
CATALINA_HOME="/opt/openemm/tomcat"
CATALINA_TMPDIR="$HOME/temp"
JAVA_HOME="/usr/java/default/"
JAVA_OPTS="-Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xss256k"
PROGRAM_NAME=`basename $0`
[openemm@i244-98 bin]$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_25-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode, sharing)

Code: Select all

[root@i244-98 tomcat]# bin/startup.sh
Using CATALINA_BASE:   /opt/openemm/tomcat
Using CATALINA_HOME:   /opt/openemm/tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/openemm/tomcat/temp
Using JRE_HOME:        /usr/java/default/
Using CLASSPATH:       /opt/openemm/tomcat/bin/bootstrap.jar:/opt/openemm/tomcat/bin/tomcat-juli.jar
And I see the default page on localhost:8080.

Code: Select all

[openemm@i244-98 ~]$ bin/openemm.sh start
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/bav-update.py .. done.
Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/bav-trigger.py .. done.

Start /home/openemm/bin/scripts/slrtscn.py .. done.

Maybe I've shed more light on this?

Well, the problem was TomCat 7. Installed tomcat6 (not from the repos), and everything is running fine.
